It seems Barcelona’s pursuit of Valencia captain, Jose Luis Gaya, is set to finally hit a dead end. His contract expires in the summer of 2023, but Los Che demand a sum close to €12-15 million, with Barça find disproportionate.

As such, they have set their eyes elsewhere. Alex Grimaldo remains an option for the summer, but Barcelona are also scouting two La Liga left-backs as an alternative to the Valencia defender, according to Javi Miguel. They are, namely, Real Betis’ Alex Moreno and Celta Vigo’s Javi Galan.

Moreno is enjoying an impressive season with Betis, scoring four goals and setting up two goals. He has enjoyed prominence with the Seville outfit for the last three seasons, specifically since Junior Firpo left for Barcelona.

Galan, on the other hand, is en route his second consecutive superb season in La Liga. He was among the best fullbacks in Spain last season with Huesca, which earned him a move to Celta Vigo.

The Spaniard was statistically the second-best dribbler in La Liga last season, with 3.3 dribbles completed per game, and has averaged 2.5 successful dribbles this term, in 5th place.

Both players can be, with some coaching from Xavi, an ideal fit for Barcelona. Further, they are also expected to cost significantly less than Gaya and Grimaldo. It remains to be seen if the Blaugranes do end up signing any of them.
