Barcelona are no longer considering Red Bull Salzburg’s 20-year-old forward Karim Adeyemi despite the uncertainity regarding Ousmane Dembele’s future continuing to persist.

It wasn’t long ago that Adeyemi had attracted Barcelona’s interest. Back then, the Catalan club had strong competition from Borussia Dortmund and the latter had, in fact, reportedly struck a deal in principle, but that hasn’t really materialized to date.

As of today, Mundo Deportivo reports that the team management has completely removed Adeyemi from the list of probable transfer targets since they aren’t sure whether the youngster will fit into Xavi’s scheme of things or not.

What was supposed to aid Barcelona in Adeyemi’s move from Salzburg to Dortmund was Erling Haaland’s future. While it’s no secret that Barcelona are pursuing the Norwegian, the 20-year-old Salzburg forward was supposed to be the key, acting as a replacement for an exit-bound Haaland.

But the fact that Dortmund and RB Salzburg are now failing to reach an agreement could strike as a big problem for Barcelona. The only issue stalling this deal is Salzburg’s demand of €42.5 million for the youngster.

“As I’ve said many times, my focus is on Salzburg. Nothing has been decided,” the forward told reporters back in February. “What happens in summer happens in summer.”

Adeyemi’s name was only linked with Barcelona since Dembele was supposed to leave in January itself. However, a lot has changed since. Although the 24-year-old Frenchman still hasn’t put pen to paper, he is playing at full throttle under Xavi.

As for Barcelona, they have no intention of renewing the terms since they believe the last offer was the best for all parties involved. Regardless of the situation, however, he continues to have Xavi’s confidence, meaning that the next few months will be the key.
