Barcelona are keeping close tabs on young talents within Spain and outside, having tasted success by placing their faith in youth in recent seasons.

Indeed, players like Pedri, Gavi, Alejandro Balde, and Lamine Yamal have become success stories at the club and as such, there remains focus on recruiting young talent to strengthen the youth and subsidiary ranks as well as the first-team setup.

A deal for Vitor Roque is already in place while Barça also signed talents like Mikayil Faye and Mamadou Fall this past summer. More young prospects continue to remain on the agenda at the club for the future.

Hugo Sotelo on Barcelona’s radar

One such talent whom Barcelona are closely following is Celta Vigo midfielder Hugo Sotelo, reports Oscar Mendez.

The 19-year-old central midfielder is a product of the Celta youth academy and has gone on to make close to 30 appearances for the Galician outfit’s subsidiary team.

Sotelo also has five first-team appearances under his belt, two of which have come in the ongoing campaign.

The midfield prospect’s contract with Celta expires in 2025 and talks over a new deal have not gone according to plans thus far.

Sotelo is currently still on a subsidiary contract and Celta Vigo’s initial offer to renew his contract was refused, and no fresh talks have taken place since.

Barcelona, as such, are keeping a close eye on the situation as Sotelo has a release clause worth €10 million in his contract, which would double up to €20 million once he is promoted to the first team.

More interest in Sotelo

Apart from Barcelona, though, their arch-rivals Real Madrid are also closely following Sotelo and both teams could consider a move by triggering his €10 million clause next summer if his contract is not renewed.

Premier League club Wolves have also shown interest in Sotelo and even made an attempt to sign him this past summer itself, but it came to nothing.

For now, Barcelona are keeping tabs on the 19-year-old and will continue to do so before deciding whether to move for him or not.
