Mundo Deportivo state that Barcelona president Joan Laporta considers the contract renewal of Ilaix Moriba an urgent priority. The president has seen Moriba’s potential and wants him to be a key part of the club’s future.

Moriba, who has enjoyed a stellar debut season with the Barcelona first team, has a valid contract with the club till 2022. The youngster even scored his first goal for the club in stunning fashion on Saturday against Osasuna in La Liga. It was also reported earlier that Moriba is set to be permanently promoted to the first team from next season.

The report also highlights that the 18-year-old has a buyout clause of 100 million euros. A high price, but easily within the reach of Europe’s top clubs. Many of whom have reportedly tried to sign Moriba a couple of years ago. Among them were Manchester City, Chelsea and Juventus.

At just 18, Moriba has already made immense strides as a player. Though he should most likely be playing with the Juvenil A squad, he has directly made the leap through the first team. Such is his quality. Coach Ronald Koeman also clearly has a lot of trust in the midfielder’s ability already, which is always an encouraging sign.

Laporta has clearly seen this himself and has added the youngster’s renewal to the list of key agendas. Aside from the Barcelona B starlet, the president also has the contracts of Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembele and Oscar Mingueza to consider.

Finances are tight, however, so a lot of these deals will depend on the renegotiation of wages with some of the less important players or their sales.
