It’s been more than six months since Mateu Alemany resigned from his duties at FC Barcelona and his departure seems to have shaken the Catalan team quite a bit so much so that they now want him back.

According to a report from SPORT, club president Joan Laporta recently tried to resign Alemany by personally travelling to Mallorca in order to persuade him in to return to the club.

The 60-year-old, however, respectfully declined the offer as he has something else planned for his future.

When did it happen?

On the final day of the winter transfer market, Laporta, accompanied by a select group of associates, journeyed to Mallorca. The club offered unclear statements regarding the purpose of their visit.

According to their remarks, the tour was deemed “private” and remained independent from matters pertaining to Barcelona’s daily sports or economic affairs.

In truth, the President of Barcelona undertook a special journey to engage in discussions with Mateu Alemany, who served as the Director of the FC Barcelona football department from March 2021 to September 2023.

But for what it is worth, the former sporting director decided to decline the offer as he has something else on his mind.

Why the need to bring him back?

As Deco suggested in his recent interview, Barcelona are going through a tough phase so much so that a lot of work needs to be done from scratch. This not only includes finding a new manager and looking for player transfers but also how to arrange funds for these transfers.

“We are going through a difficult phase in many areas, we do not have money to go out on the market to look for reinforcements,” said Deco.

It seems as if the former midfielder has a lot of tasks at hand and it might be proving a little too much for one person to oversee it all.

This could be one of the reasons why Barcelona want Alemany back, but as he suggested, this isn’t happening anytime soon.
