Barcelona preparing €30 million January offer for 21-year-old Serie A defender, will be rejected – report

Barcelona have one of the most premium defensive cores in world football right now. From Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen to Alejandro Balde, Joao Cancelo, and Inigo Martinez, they really have the backline covered.

However, given the sheer quality of players in central defence, especially, Barcelona will be looking to make a sale next summer that allows them to bring in players in other positions that can cover the cracks in the team.

In doing so, though, they will create a vacuum in defence, that will need to be fixed with reinforcements. Bringing in Chadi Riad from Real Betis is a real option, as per reports. He will cost €7 million courtesy of the buy-back clause inserted in his deal.

Barcelona are also preparing a move for another defender at the same time.

Eyes on Dragusin

Barcelona are interested in signing Radu Dragusin, who has been a revelation in Serie A this season with Genoa.

As per reports from Italy, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, Barça are preparing an offer worth €30 million for him in January. This offer is not enough to convince Genoa, though, who will reject it.

A graduate from Juventus’ academy, Dragusin is finally enjoying his breakthrough campaign in Serie A with Genoa. He has played 17 games, scoring one goal and setting up one in the process.

The Romanian has attracted a lot of eyes from top clubs, like Tottenham Hotspur, who would be willing to pay a premium for his services in the future.

A preventive signing?

As brilliant as Dragusin has been this season, with his ceiling even higher, Barcelona do not really need him as part of their backline right now, or even in the near future.

If there is any truth to the Chadi Riad rumours, Barcelona should be covered in defence for a long time, even if they sell one of their prized defenders in the same window.

However, Dragusin can be considered a preventive signing, much like Vitor Roque. With so much competition for his signature in the market, signing the 21-year-old early could be an economically feasible move that brings in the big bucks later.

That said, with the team crying out loud for more fullbacks, a pivot, a left-winger, and even a central midfielder after Gavi’s ACL, it seems farfetched to believe that Barcelona will try to pursue a centre-back.
