Barcelona’s love affair with free agents continues into the summer transfer window, where they have several players on their radar. Franck Kessie, Boubacar Kamara, Marcelo Brozovic, Paul Pogba, among others, have all found their way into the list, but none are better placed than Chelsea duo Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta.

Barcelona’s interest in the two started to be reported earlier in November, and tremendous progress has been made since. In fact, SPORT report that the Catalans are on the verge of finalising deals for the defensive duo.

Apparently, they have already reached an agreement with Azpilicueta, while negotiations with Christensen have come close to fruition.

Despite being on other sides of 30, both players are reliable players in their position and set to become free agents in June 2022. As such, they are free to negotiate with a club of their choosing.

The only way Chelsea can intervene in this situation is by offering them lucrative renewals. For Azpilicueta, that means a deal that lasts more than a year, which the London outfit is not ready to offer.

Meanwhile, Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo is on Chelsea’ radar for the summer. They could possibly lose Antonio Rudiger at the time along with the aforementioned two and want to bring in the Uruguayan to bolster their defence.

This could turn out to be a long season for the Blaugranes and Blues, both of whom want to renew their defensive stars, but with other goals in their hindsight.
