Barcelona are facing a precarious situation as far as their dealings in the transfer market are concerned. Their altercation with the Financial Fair Play regulations have crippled the club’s powers in the market, which is why they are mainly targeting free agents across Europe.

However, one player Barcelona have appeared quite serious about is Vitor Roque. The Athletico Paranaense forward has been identified as a crucial strategic target for the club as they look to find a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

But according to a report from SPORT, Barça are not entirely sure about paying a fortune for Vitor Roque. The Brazilian has been valued at around €50 million by Athletico Paranaense.

This comes against the backdrop of Vitor Roque’s father taking a tour of Europe, reportedly meeting agents in London and Paris. Arsenal, for one, have shown concrete interest in the player and are keen on incorporating him as part of their squad for next season.

Barcelona, though, are hopeful of reaching an agreement with Athletico. Thanks to Deco, their main advisor and scout in Brazil, the club have been able to reach an excellent relationship with Roque’s environment, with the player himself keen on playing for Blaugrana.

The Catalans are not in a position to pay €50 million for the Brazilian right now and are banking on Vitor Roque’s desire to play for the club, in order to lower the asking price.

Barcelona, for their part, would also be open to the possibility of securing a deal for him but postponing his arrival for next year, when their FFP situation would be better.

Athletico are understandably looking out for the highest bidder, but a lot may depend on Vitor Roque’s desire come the end of the season. It will be interesting to see how things transpire over the coming weeks.
