Barcelona ‘not optimistic’ about signing 23-year-old in-demand defensive stalwart – report
Spanish publication Diario SPORT has recently offered a fresh update on the Jules Kounde saga, suggesting the operation is far from easy from Barcelona’s perspective.
Such has been realised by the club itself, with the board aware of the complications involved in the process, especially with Chelsea reaching an agreement with Sevilla over the Frenchman.
The Premier League giants are reportedly willing to splash as much as €65 million for the young defender. They have also offered a whopping €12 million salary for the player – an offer many consider too good to refuse.
Barcelona do have a slight bargaining chip in the fact that Kounde is desperate to join the Catalans and become a part of Xavi’s revolution. As such, the player is doing everything he can to earn a move to Camp Nou.
However, Barcelona recognises the fact that the operation is quite complicated. They are not too optimistic of their chances of signing the defender, as the club are not in a position to match Chelsea’s offer, let alone proposing a better deal.
While Kounde did not travel to London yesterday to complete his Chelsea medical, many in the Spanish press now believe the Frenchman’s move to Stamford Bridge could be imminent.
The disparity between Barça and Chelsea’s offers are far too large for Kounde to dump the Blues, although neither parties appear to have given up hopes.
The report points out Barcelona’s operations to sign Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski, which looked very tricky at the start but the club were able to finalise those deals, thanks in part to the respective players holding out for a move to Camp Nou until the end.
It now remains to be seen whether Kounde is willing to do the same and delay his potential move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
