With Ousmane Dembele likely to join PSG from Barcelona, the impending move has stirred up a hornets’ nest as far as the Catalans’ transfer plans are concerned.
Xavi and the rest of the sporting staff considered the French winger one of the permanent fixtures in the team and had not contemplated his exit.
But the player now actively seeking to join PSG and even reportedly agreeing a five-year contract worth €20 million per season, the La Liga champions are likely to enter the market for a direct replacement.
One of the players that was reported to be on the club’s radar, as a potential replacement for Dembele, was Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco.
Carrasco not on Barcelona’s radar
However, according to the latest update from MARCA, Carrasco is not among the names that Barcelona are contemplating as a possible option to replace Dembele.
The Belgian international has been on Barça’s target list since January when they tried to sign him as part of the Memphis Depay operation but failed.
However, the club did secure a €15 million purchase option for Carrasco for the summer, but let it expire on June 30.
Despite that, reports on Monday suggested that Barcelona were looking to rekindle their interest in him as a possible option to replace Dembele. It was further claimed that the Belgian could be available for €15 million.
But, now, it is being claimed that Carrasco does not feature on Barça’s list of potential replacements for Dembele.
The name of his Atletico Madrid teammate, Joao Felix, is under consideration but is not a priority target for manager Xavi.
Bernardo Silva remains the dream target
The report stresses that Barcelona continue to dream of signing Manchester City superstar Bernardo Silva, a player that is loved within the club.
The Portuguese international, too, is reportedly keen on a move to Catalonia but the finances make the operation complicated.
Furthermore, Manchester City will not be prepared to let go of one of their best players without a fight, especially after having seen Ilkay Gundogan sign for Barcelona.
