Just as the injury woes had been easing for Barcelona, they were dealt with another blow today during the game against CA Osasuna. Teenage prodigy Gavi seemed to suffer an adductor injury and had to be taken off in the first half, with Ansu Fati replacing him.

Gavi, who entered the game with a risk of being suspended for the next match against Espanyol, seemed to have hurt his adductor just a while before the midpoint in the first half.

While the midfielder tried to soldier on, manager Xavi Hernandez ultimately made the call to take off the 18-year-old in the 36th minute, with Ansu Fati replacing him on the pitch.

Gavi has been the only central midfielder who had not succumbed to an injury at Barcelona this season and while his substitution seemed to be precautionary, a clearer update on his condition should emerge after the game.

With only a few more matches left to be played, Xavi would like to have the 18-year-old available for the final run-in given the part he has played in the team’s rise to the top of the table.
