Barcelona midfielder has convinced everyone at club, will not leave in the summer
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has turned his situation around at the club since the summer transfer window and has done so spectacularly.
The 25-year-old had been heavily linked with an exit in the summer, with Barça looking at him as an option to help reduce their operating costs while generating revenue from his sale.
An agreement with Manchester United was also in place from the club’s side, but the Dutchman dug his heels in and held firm on his desire of wanting to stay at Camp Nou.
There was also pressure on the Netherlands ace to reduce his wages, and he even lost his place in the starting XI under Xavi.
But now, de Jong is undoubtedly one of the most important players for Xavi’s Barcelona. The midfielder put in one of his most impressive performances in the win against Real Betis on Wednesday.
And now, Cadena SER is reporting that de Jong has completely convinced everyone at the club of his quality and abilities. And under no circumstances will the former AFC Ajax ace leave the club in the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old has displayed his ability to operate in the pivot position when Sergio Busquets has been rested.
De Jong has also excelled playing alongside the club captain as part of Xavi’s four-man midfield plans alongside Pedri and Gavi, with the latter operating as a false-winger.
The midfielder continues to have admirers from outside, with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag still willing to bring his former protege on board at Old Trafford.
Barça are in need of generating income from player sales and also need to cut down on their wage bill, but de Jong is unlikely to leave.
It has been previously reported that Xavi sees the midfielder as an ‘untouchable’ in his squad and Wednesday’s performance against Betis showed why.
