Journalist Luis F Rojo has reported via MARCA that Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is not really worried about his contract renewal mostly because his ongoing deal runs until 2026.
At Barcelona, everyone is on the same page that this negotiation is going to be a slow and steady process unlike Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s renewal, which was done swiftly last month in order to help with the Financial Fair Play.
Not worried until the January transfer window
The reporter has also mentioned that neither the player nor Barcelona are thinking about it much. In fact, any advancement towards the same will be done once the winter market is concluded.
At the moment, there has been no official action from Barcelona thus far regarding the same, despite reports suggesting that talks had started to take place.
While their intention is to initiate discussions regarding the Dutchman’s contract, as of now, no meetings have transpired.
De Jong in no rush
As far as the midfielder is concerned, it is said that he does not seem to be in any rush to broach this topic.
It is worth noting that de Jong’s current commitment with Barcelona is until 2026, and he is bound by a substantial contract with a significant outstanding payment.
For this season, he is entitled to a guaranteed fixed income, including his base salary, deferred payments, and bonuses, which collectively exceed a gross total of €27 million.
The player is aware that when his contract ends, he has the option to join any team and secure the entire salary if he is granted a release letter.
On the other hand, Barcelona aim to provide him with stability by offering a contract extension. However, he understands that they won’t be able to match the salary de Jong currently earns by that time.
For these reasons, a quick solution to this renewal is not foreseen. What is clear is that de Jong is an unassailable member of the team. He is becoming more and more important in the team since the departure of Sergio Busquets, he is becoming the conductor of the Barça orchestra.
