Barcelona vice-president of marketing Juli Guiu was present at the promotion of the Les Nits de Barcelona festival, where he talked about the possibility of signing Lionel Messi at the end of the season.

Speaking to RAC1 (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Guiu also commented on Real Madrid’s video, in retaliation to Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s comments against the Spanish giants in a recent press conference.

The video showcased how Barcelona were positively impacted by General Franco, who had saved the club from bankruptcy three times while sending his general minister to the inauguration of Camp Nou.

Guiu branded the video as obnoxious, stating, “I’ve seen the video that Real Madrid posted. Personally, I think it is the most shameful thing that can be done.”

As a Barça official, Guiu’s comment is hardly surprising. However, it appears Real Madrid will not back down after posting a video and are reportedly expected to come up with more such content, as part of its response to Barcelona.

It is an indicator of how the tie between Barcelona and Real Madrid is on the verge of a breakdown, after years of cordial relationship. This spells trouble for the Super League, where Barça and Real Madrid were essentially the two of the three figureheads.

With Juventus also struggling to keep up with the Italian court, it is quite probable that the ESL project will take a backseat for now. Barcelona president Joan Laporta, in fact, is soon set to meet UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin to talk about the ESL project.

Juli Guiu, meanwhile, has stressed that it would not be prudent of La Liga if they decided not to help Barcelona in finding ways to register Lionel Messi, should the club re-sign him this summer.
