Julian Nagelsmann is one of the hottest managerial prospects available in Europe.

After kickstarting his career at TSG Hoffenheim, the German has gone on to become one of the most talented managers in world football, coaching teams such as Bayern Munich.

Nagelsmann is currently employed by the German national team and will be leading Die Mannschaft in Euro 2024, which will be hosted by Germany.

However, in a recent interview, Nagelsmann hinted that he might not stay with the German NT for a long time.

When asked whether he will remain the German NT head coach at the start of the UEFA Nations League in September, he replied (h/t Florian Plettenberg), “I haven’t thought about it yet. Since my contract ends after the EURO, I would say, as it stands now, no!”

“The EURO is my focus right now. Then we will see what happens,” he added, suggesting that he might want to be back in the market later this summer.

Nagelsmann’s comments come on the back of speculations linking him with a move to Barcelona.

Indeed, Nagelsmann is one of Barça’s candidates as the Catalans look to find a replacement for Xavi, who will leave the club at the end of the season.

Barcelona have also been linked with a move for another German coach Hansi Flick, but one would imagine Nagelsmann would be a better fit for a project like Barcelona.

The former Hoffenheim coach can build a solid foundation and add a proper tactical identity to the squad. However, his unique and flexible tactical setup means several Barça players may have difficulties settling in.

For that reason, Barcelona might want to prioritise other coaching options, with Jurgen Klopp also under consideration.
