Barcelona looking to sign Spanish attacking midfielder on a free transfer in 2024
Barcelona have been linked with a move for Dani Olmo for a fair few years. It seems even with a change of management, the club is keen on bringing back the Spaniard, even nine years after he initially left as a teenager.
Currently playing for RB Leipzig, Olmo is a versatile attacking midfielder who can also assume roles as an interior and on the wing. He has two goals and four assists in the Bundesliga this season.
And if reports from Mundo Deportivo are correct, Olmo is still on Barcelona’s radar, and the club have asked the player to not renew his contract with Leipzig.
This conversation reportedly took place during the World Cup in Qatar in a meeting between the player’s entourage and Barça’s administration, including Xavi himself. The coach is a long-time admirer of the player.
Olmo’s current contract expires in 2024, and Barcelona plan to make a move for him during that summer transfer window.
The blaugranes have previously tried to sign the 24-year-old, with their last attempt on the summer transfer window deadline day. Eventually, Leipzig refused to sell the player that late, after which Barcelona pursued Ferran Torres in the winter.
Barcelona would try to sign him as early as this summer, but Leipzig’s price tag of €40 million is far beyond the La Liga giants right now. They will be hoping to solve their financial fair play issues before pursuing any moves in the summer.
