Barcelona had gone through a summer of changes in 2022, with the club roping in multiple new players. At the same time, many players left the club in search of a new adventure elsewhere.

Nico Gonzalez and Abde Ezzalzouli were among the players leaving Barcelona on loan in search of more game-time elsewhere.

The former joined Valencia on a loan deal, whereas Abde moved to CA Osasuna. Both players joined their respective clubs in search of regular playing minutes in the top flight, something which would not be forthcoming at Camp Nou.

However, according to SPORT, both players are set to return to Camp Nou after the end of their respective loan spells and stay at the club. This comes under the orders of Xavi Hernandez, who wants both players available ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Although this does not guarantee that both players will be a key part of the Barcelona first-team, their presence in the squad next season means they will at least be handed an opportunity to prove themselves.

Nico has featured in 12 league games for Valencia this season, scoring just one goal. As for Abde, he has racked up two assists in eight matches. He was also one of Morocco’s rising stars in the World Cup, notably helping his nation reach the semifinal stage.

Barcelona’s desire to bring Nico and Abde back to Camp Nou at the end of the season comes in the midst of speculations that suggest that the club are not planning on spending money on new players either in January or in the summer of 2023.

Although there is a chance that at least one of these two players could leave Camp Nou next summer, they certainly have the quality to make a breakthrough in the Barça first-team or at least serve as an excellent alternative for first-choice starters.
