After Inter Miami signed two Barcelona legends in the form of Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, they are closing in on the capture of yet another Blaugrana icon.
Indeed, according to journalist Toni Juanmarti, veteran left-back Jordi Alba is all set to sign for Inter Miami, with the deal 99% done. In doing so, the former Barcelona defender will unite with his close friends Messi and Busquets in Florida.
Alba brought an end to his illustrious career at Barcelona this summer, as he and the club agreed on a mutual termination of his contract even though there was still a year left on his deal.
Ever since, there have been speculations about his future as the 34-year-old contemplated continuing in Europe for at least one more year given that he is now the captain of the Spanish national team, while also looking at offers from the MLS and Saudi Arabia.
Ultimately, though, it appears that Alba has decided to join his former Barcelona teammates, Messi and Busquets, in the United States of America by signing for Inter Miami.
Negotiations had been taking place for a while now and steady progress was being made with Juanmarti now reporting that the operation is 99% closed.
It will be yet another coup for Inter Miami, who have made a disastrous start to the new MLS season and will be hoping for a turnaround of fortunes following the influx of these Barcelona legends.
The club, partly owned by former Manchester United and Real Madrid superstar David Beckham, might not stop with Alba’s signing as they are looking to rope in another Barcelona legend in the form of Andres Iniesta.
The legendary midfielder is a free agent now after leaving Vissel Kobe earlier this month and has an offer from Inter Miami, which could see him reunite with his former partners-in-crime from Barça.
