Barcelona have been monitoring the transfer market for reinforcements in the right-back position this summer. The Catalans have their eyes on several players such as Juan Foyth of Villarreal, Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot, and Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen.

But, according to BILD (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Barcelona are set to face competition from arch-rivals Real Madrid in pursuit of all three aforementioned right-backs.

Indeed, Real Madrid are also now understood to be interested in signing one of Dalot, Foyth, and Frimpong in the summer transfer window, joining Barcelona in the battle for right-backs.

Foyth has been Barcelona’s priority target for some time now, but they have been held back by Villarreal’s demands for his €54 million release clause to be paid in full.

But, recent reports suggest that the Catalans are ready to offer loanee midfielder Nico Gonzalez as part of the deal to try and convince Villarreal. However, if Real Madrid are willing to match his clause fully, it could become a concern for the Blaugrana.

Dalot is another player that is well-liked by the Barcelona staff. The La Liga leaders have had their eyes on him for a long time now and the fact that his contract with Manchester United expires in 2024 makes him an attractive prospect.

But it appears that Real Madrid also find the Portuguese international an enticing target and wish to sign him to provide competition for and eventually replace Dani Carvajal.

The final name on the list, Jeremie Frimpong, is enjoying a fine season at Bayer Leverkusen, helping them reach the semifinals of the UEFA Europa League. The Dutchman has been on Barcelona’s radars for a while now, with there having been contacts with his agent as well.

However, now Real Madrid are also considering making a bid for him, although it is understood that Frimpong may very well be on his way to Manchester United in the summer.

So, it might eventually end up being a choice between Foyth and Dalot, who could leave if Frimpong joins United.

At this point, Foyth remains Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez’s priority, and he will hope that Real Madrid do not meddle with the club’s pursuit of the Argentine.
