La Masia has been on a roll in recent years. In Ansu Fati, Gavi and Alejandro Balde amongst others, the academy has gifted Xavi Hernandez with some of the best talents in world football.
Lamine Yamal is the latest entrant on the aforementioned list.
The youngster made a strong impression in preseason and began the season as a backup option in Xavi Hernandez’s forward line. Fast forward one month and he is arguably one of the team’s most influential players in the final third.
Barcelona working on a contract renewal
With Yamal’s deal set to run out next summer, Barcelona are working against the clock to secure the player’s long-term future. After all, his special performances have not gone unnoticed by Europe’s elite.
Yamal’s new contract with the club will run until the summer of 2026. Further, it will place a mammoth €1 billion release clause on the jewel from La Masia.
Maturity beyond his years
At 16 years of age, Yamal has not only made himself a regular for Barcelona but also is a part of the Spanish National Team. In fact, the youngster has even scored for La Roja.
The teenager has shown no signs of being out of his comfort zone playing at the highest level. It is clear that he is here to stay, and that the years to come will bring him accolades aplenty.
In eight appearances for Barcelona so far this season, the protege has provided one assist and has created four big chances. Further, he averages 1.6 successful dribbles and 1.2 shots per game.
As it stands, Xavi plans to utilise Yamal’s services judiciously to avoid any fitness compromise or injury spells. The club do not wish for a repetition of the mistake they made with Pedri.
