Barcelona’s midweek win over Real Sociedad was a difficult one to take for the fans. While the team did manage to secure three points, they lost a host of key players to injuries in the process, with reports suggesting as many as ten players suffering “physical discomfort”.

The list had included the entirety of the back four and the substitute Clement Lenglet, thus leaving Xavi Hernandez in a dilemma ahead of the Sunday night encounter against Rayo Vallecano.

It has been revealed, however, that both Dani Alves and Ronald Araujo have been training normally ahead of the clash, and could be in the starting lineup.

The two players were subject to knocks against Real Sociedad, with Araujo notably picking up a knee injury. But it appears both are back to normal training and could be in contention to start against Rayo Vallecano this weekend.

Araujo was subbed off against Real Sociedad with what seemed like a knee injury, but was eventually ruled fit according to an official medical statement. Dani Alves, meanwhile, ruled himself not injured in the post-game press conference.

On a grim note, however, it seems Gerard Pique is not training with the team. The veteran is currently doing individual work in an attempt to get back to full fitness as soon as possible.

Pique has endured a difficult few weeks lately. His troubles began in the first leg against Eintracht Frankfurt, where he had picked up a thigh problem. He missed quite a few matches, including the second leg tie against Frankfurt.

The experienced defender returned to action against Real Sociedad but picked up another knock that could keep him out on the sidelines this weekend, at the very least.

In addition to his struggles with injuries, Pique has been subjected to various off-field controversies as well, including his involvement with Luis Rubiales in Saudi Arabia’s deal to host the Spanish Supercup in the country.

It remains to be seen when Pique returns to full fitness, but the availability of both Araujo and Alves could serve as a major boost for Barcelona as they look to maintain their winning form this weekend.
