Barcelona ‘internally debating’ the signing of Real Madrid forward next summer

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are considering a move for Marco Asensio. The Real Madrid attacker has emerged as a potential target for the Catalans and the board is internally debating on whether or not to go after him next summer.
Once regarded as one of the most talented wingers at Real Madrid, Asensio has fallen out of favour in recent years, often struggling with injuries and a lack of consistency. It has affected his overall role in the first team.
Indeed, Asensio has featured in under 100 minutes of league football this season, moving behind the likes of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Federico Valverde in the pecking order.
Even though things have improved for him of late, there is no guarantee that he will be offered an extension at Real Madrid, meaning he could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season. This has put Barcelona on red alert.
Although the Catalans are not actively looking for attacking reinforcements, they are intrigued by the prospect of signing Asensio. The Spaniard, after all, is available on a free transfer and offers abundant experience at the highest level of football.
In addition, Asensio is a versatile attacker, who can operate in various roles across the final third. This could prove to be handy for Xavi Hernandez, especially amid uncertainty over the future of Memphis Depay, who remains a target for Juventus in January.
Asensio, for his part, has previously teased a potential move to Barcelona, while his agent Jorge Mendes has a strong relationship with the Catalan club’s president Joan Laporta.
With the Blaugrana discussing the possibility of a transfer for Asensio, only time will tell if the Spaniard makes the switch from the Santiago Bernabeu to Spotify Camp Nou come next summer.
