Barcelona interested in €100 million Brazilian midfielder, deal complicated

Barcelona, at this point, have explored several options in the transfer market, as they desperately seek a viable replacement for the outgoing Sergio Busquets in the coming summer.
The club have been primarily linked with a move for Martin Zubimendi and Joshua Kimmich. But signing either of the two could prove to be a costly affair, despite Xavi Hernandez rating them quite highly.
To that end, a new report from Fabrizio Romano (h/t Reshad Rahman) suggests Barcelona have set their sights on Bruno Guimaraes. The Newcastle United midfielder has been a hit in the Premier League since joining the club at the start of last year.
Guimaraes has racked up over 50 competitive appearances for NUFC, scoring 10 goals while mustering six assists. His contributions in the middle of the park have played a key role in helping the Magpies finish the campaign in fourth spot and secure Champions League football.
The Brazilian international’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona among the clubs interested in his services.
Guimaraes’ aggression, coupled with his productivity and work ethic in midfield could make him an ideal solution in the pivot position for Xavi in the years to come. He also offers ample experience at the highest level of football – making him an excellent investment.
However, Romano adds that it is going to be incredibly complicated for Barcelona to sign Guimaraes this summer. Newcastle, for one, will have no intention to offload their star player just a year and a half after committing over €40 million for his services.
Even if they do get rid of the former Lyon starlet, he will cost a fortune, as the player has a contract at NUFC until 2026. Barcelona, therefore, should already look for other alternatives, in their bid to sign a new midfielder this coming summer.
