Barcelona are amongst the quieter parties in the winter transfer market after splashing their cash and stacking their squad sufficiently in June. However, the fact remains that Xavi Hernandez still has holes in his squad that need urgent fixing.

The right-back position is arguably the Blaugranas’ weakest link on the field. Sergi Roberto and Hector Bellerin are the only two players fighting for the spot on the right side of the defence, and it is clear that the team need a quality signing.

According to reports from Sky Sports, Barcelona are eyeing Celtic’s Josip Juranovic as a possible signing. Coming off a splendid World Cup run with Croatia, the defender is one of the hottest prospects on the market and would welcome a move to Europe’s elite.

The 27-year-old started all six games for Croatia in the World Cup, providing one assist in that duration. Further, he recorded 1.2 key passes and close to nine defensive actions on the night.

He primarily came into the spotlight after his phenomenal display against Brazil in the Quarterfinal where he not only pocketed Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr but also generated wave after wave of attack on Croatia’s right wing.

He has more than three and a half years left on his deal in Scotland. However, talks between the player and Celtic over a renewal are said to have been fruitless and he could be allowed to leave.

Barcelona are not the only top-tier team eyeing his arrival. Competing with the Catalans are Premier League giants Chelsea and local rivals Atletico Madrid amongst others. Given the club’s precarious financial situation, it remains to be seen how hard they are willing to push for Juranovic.
