In recent years, Barcelona have made great efforts to commercialise Spotify Camp Nou in light of their economic troubles.

The iconic stadium was used for weddings and recreational events earlier in the year. Barcelona also reached a landmark sponsorship deal with Spotify that saw the stadium being renamed to ‘Spotify Camp Nou’.

According to RAC1, Barcelona are planning to further commercialise the stadium and are currently in talks with NFL to host American football matches at the venue.

Once the Espai Barça construction works are completed, the Blaugrana intend for Camp Nou to host the said NFL matches, which in turn, could greatly increase the overall revenue of the stadium.

The report further suggests that Barcelona and NFL already share a good relationship. NFL had earlier convinced three Barça stores to sell official NFL merchandise while the club also hosted an event with the Dolphins.

Overall, the Catalans are extremely excited to receive the NFL franchises. The two parties are in advanced negotiations over a deal that could see some of the NFL matches being hosted at Camp Nou.

The construction projects that are currently going on in the stadium could further increase the capacity of Camp Nou, though the works are not expected to be finished before 2024.

Barcelona will be playing their home matches at Montjuic starting next season as the renovation project takes off. President Joan Laporta insisted that the club plans to return to the new Camp Nou in the autumn of 2024.

Camp Nou hosting NFL matches may further increase the stadium’s clout, not only as a footballing temple but also as a shining example for the wider world of sports.
