In light of Ousmane Dembele’s imminent exit, Barcelona have begun the search to find an adequate replacement.
With a figure of just over €25 million reportedly going to Barcelona, the Catalan giants are bound to benefit from increased wiggle room in their wage bill and budget allocation for transfers.
Although the club will take a hit on a sporting basis following Dembele’s departure, the funds are set to be invested back into the team.
Barcelona have set their sights on Rennes’ star winger
According to Sacha Tavolieri, Barcelona have entered the race for one of Ligue 1’s top prospects, Jérémy Doku.
Since joining Rennes from Anderlecht, the talented Belgian winger has been stealing the headlines in Ligue 1.
Top European clubs, like Manchester City, have taken note of his lightning-quick pace, deft dribbling, and capacity to open up scoring chances, and now Barcelona too have set their sights on the forward whose market value stands at €50 million.
Doku, who is well-known for his versatility and can play on either wing, would offer stylistic resemblances to replace Ousmane Dembele.
Competing with Manchester City
However, Barcelona are not the only side eyeing Doku’s situation, as an array of clubs have inquired about the youngster, with Manchester City also in the hunt for the winger’s acquisition
The Cityzens currently are best placed to land the player, but no formal offer has been sent to Rennes yet.
After the departure of Riyad Mahrez who decide to take his talents to Saudi Arabia, it is expected that the English and European champions will fight relentlessly for Doku’s arrival.
As City prioritize beefing up their forward line ahead of next season, they will likely offer resistance to Barcelona.
The good news for the Blaugranes is that Rennes have not obtained any proposals for their star man yet. Still, the Catalans will have to move quickly if they yearn to obtain Doku’s signature.
