After the signing of Ferran Torres was made official, Barcelona were expected to make Alvaro Morata the final piece in their forward department this season. That operation faced a set of roadblocks, making it a difficult move to complete in the limited time.

According to reports from El Nacional, Barcelona have found an alternative to Morata in case that deal falls apart. The newly sighted answer is none other than Atletico Madrid forward and Barcelona legend Luis Suarez.

The former Liverpool No.9 was asked to leave the club by Josep Maria Bartolomeu and then manager Ronald Koeman. In his first season under Diego Simeone, El Pistolero led Los Rojiblancos to silverware, even scoring the title-winning goal.

However, Suarez’s happy story at the Madrid based club did not continue long beyond that. Simeone has replaced the Uruguayan with Matheus Cunha and Angel Correa with a largely positive result.

Suarez seems set to move away from Atletico Madrid, with Inter Miami seen as a possible destination. He was linked to Juventus as well, but it seems the Old Lady has their eyes sight on Mauro Icardi. However, Barcelona now seem like a realistic option for a short deal for Suarez.

The biggest obstacle in the operation is Simeone’s reluctance to let the striker leave, significantly to strengthen a direct rival. Xavi is said to have given his yes, but the negotiations will be long and exhausting.

In 13 starts this season, the 34-year-old has scored seven goals while assisting one. He has only averaged 60 minutes per game and has created three big chances.
