When talks of a possible swap between Barcelona and Inter Milan involving Memphis Depay and Joaquin Correa began, it was not seen in a good light by the Blaugrana faithful.

Eventually, Xavi was said to be unhappy with the transaction, and did not give his green light for the trade.

That said, according to reports from Gaston Edul, Barcelona still see Correa as a solid option and are concretely interested in his signing. However, the deal now seems difficult given Memphis Depay’s decision.

The Dutch International does not favour a move to Inter and prioritises the other options on his table. Thus, at the moment, talks between Correa and Barcelona are off.

If recent reports are to be believed, Depay has an agreement until 2025 with Atletico Madrid and sees his future to be at Estadio Civitas Metropolitano. Yet, that move, too, seems difficult, given Los Rojiblancos’ refusal to pay a transfer fee.

An exchange involving Yannick Carrasco was considered, but Simeone’s side declined that as well.

While Depay’s next destination remains unclear, his reluctance to sign for the Nerazzuri may be a blessing in disguise. After all, Correa has not been impressive for the Italians, with just nine goals and five assists in 57 matches.

Barcelona and Inter Milan will remain in contact, however, over the possible swap deal involving Franck Kessie and Marcelo Brozovic.

The Ivory Coast International has struggled for minutes in Catalonia due to the goldmine of resources at Xavi’s disposal. Brozovic, on the other hand, would be the ideal short-term replacement for Sergio Busquets.
