Marcelo Brozovic was one of the few players Barcelona had targeted during the January transfer window. The club were keen on strengthening the ranks in the midfield unit and there were even talks of a potential swap deal involving him and Franck Kessie.

While the move did not materialise, Barcelona have not lost sight of Brozovic just yet, reports Gerard Romero.

The Spanish journalist suggests the Inter Milan midfielder is a ‘highly valued’ target at Barça, who are considering a move for the Croatian international in the coming summer. The club have been linked with a move for the midfielder for quite some time and feel this is the right time to pounce.

With over 300 competitive appearances for Inter, Brozovic is regarded as one of the most well-established midfielders in Serie A. His composure, coupled with his leadership has been central to Inter Milan’s success in recent years.

But after spending over six years in Milan, many believe it is time for Brozovic to seek a new challenge elsewhere. That is where Barcelona come into the fray.

With Sergio Busquets facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou, the club are in desperate need of reinforcements in the midfield unit. Someone like Brozovic could prove to be an interesting option for the Catalans, as he can be a short-term replacement for Busquets.

However, it must be noted that Barcelona have no shortage of alternatives. In fact, the club are ideally targeting Ilkay Gundogan of Manchester City, who is set to become a free agent in the summer and bags a lot of experience at the highest level of football.

In addition, Barça have targeted Dani Parejo of Villarreal, another potential free agent, who has abundant experience in Spanish football and should not take much time settling in at Barça.
