Villarreal defender Juan Foyth is one of the options that Barcelona are looking at to strengthen the right-back position in the summer transfer window.

But, according to Gabriel Sans of Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are yet to make any sort of contact with Villarreal to explore the possibility of signing Foyth as they believe that the La Liga club will slap an ‘unaffordable’ price tag on the defender.

The Blaugrana had shown an interest in Foyth last summer itself and were making moves to sign the Argentine until he got injured late in the transfer window.

But the Catalans’ interest in the 24-year-old, who was part of Argentina’s World Cup-winning squad in Qatar, has not receded and they continue to have him on their wishlist for the next summer.

However, considering that Foyth is contracted with Villarreal until 2026, Barcelona believe that the Yellow Submarine will make it difficult for them to sign the Argentine international by slapping a steep asking price on him.

It has already been reported in the past that Villarreal will demand Foyth’s €54.6 million release clause be paid in full if Barcelona wish to sign him.

Such a valuation would be well beyond the La Liga leaders’ reach next summer given that they are battling Financial Fair Play problems and are also gunning for the signing of other players such as Vitor Roque and Martin Zubimendi.

Hence, Foyth’s signing, at the moment, is seen as very difficult. However, he is not the only right-back on the club’s agenda, with the Catalans already having asked about the availability of the likes of Benjamin Pavard, Diogo Dalot and Thomas Meunier.
