With Barcelona needing to address their Financial Fair Play problems before being able to make signings, one or two high-profile sales could be necessary in the summer.

The Catalans have already drawn out plans for the upcoming window and have identified three positions that need to be strengthened, with president Joan Laporta revealing as much in an interview recently.

And, according to SPORT, the midfield department is not an area where Barcelona are looking to make any investments in the summer unless Sergio Busquets decides to leave when his contract expires.

As things stand, Barça believe that the midfield department is well-stocked, especially with the club having renewed Sergi Roberto, who can offer an additional option in the centre of the park.

Another reason for Barcelona to not wanting to splash on a new midfielder is that they have absolutely no intention to sell Frenkie de Jong in the summer despite the need to generate revenue from potential sales.

The Dutchman had been made available for a transfer last summer so that the Catalans could bring in some cash and reduce their wage bill by offloading him.

Manchester United were keen on signing the former AFC Ajax ace last year and once again remain intent on obtaining in his services, while several other Premier League clubs are said to be interested as well.

But the situation is no longer the same as De Jong is now seen as a fundamental part of the team under Xavi Hernandez and the club will not consider any offers for the 25-year-old Netherlands international.

So, despite the interest and the need to sell, Barcelona will not consider offloading De Jong in the upcoming summer window, with the Netherlands ace seen as a fundamental player in the squad.
