Apart from their rivalry on the football pitch, Barcelona and Real Madrid have also indulged in transfer battles for several players over the years.

It is no secret that Real Madrid wanted to sign Neymar Jr but were beaten to his capture by Barcelona while the Catalans were defeated in their pursuit of Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo, who are now superstars at the Bernabeu.

More recently, the two clubs indulged in a transfer war for another Brazilian jewel in the form of Endrick.

Barça manager went on record to confirm the club’s interest in the Palmeiras wonderkid, but he eventually opted to join Real Madrid, who paid €35 million plus €25 million in add-ons for his signing.

Having missed out on the 17-year-old forward, Barcelona then went about swiftly to close the deal for Athletico Paranaense’s Vitor Roque in a deal worth €30 million plus €31 million in add-ons.

Roque triumphing over Endrick in Brazil

Both Roque and Endrick are still in Brazil, with Athletico and Palmeiras, respectively, and will be arriving at Barça and Madrid next year.

And a look at their numbers during the 2023 season in Brazil paints a clear picture of Roque’s triumph over his compatriot, as both prepare for their dream clubs next year, reports SPORT.

Indeed, since the start of the 2023 campaign, Roque has plundered 20 goals in 41 matches for Athletico Paranaense across all competitions.

The 18-year-old striker is the go-to man for the Brazilian giants and has been scoring clutch goals for his team on a regular basis.

In comparison, Endrick has managed only seven goals across all competitions and is not even a starter for Palmeiras. In fact, the teenager’s last goal for his club came over two months ago.

Roque also has eight assists to his name, taking his goal contributions to 28 whereas Endrick has registered just one assist (eight goal contributions in total).

Numbers don’t lie

Judging by the numbers this season, it would not be wrong to say that Barcelona appear to have struck gold with Roque’s signing.

The 18-year-old, fondly known as Tigrinho is already making a big impact and is knocking on the doors of the Brazilian national team, with his exclusion from the squad for the recent FIFA World Cup qualifiers causing some surprise.

Barcelona tried to bring Roque to the club in the summer itself, but Fair Play conditions would not allow for it. The aim is for the 18-year-old sensation to join in January.
