Barcelona forward suffers from muscle discomfort with national team, issue not serious

The first matchday of the ongoing international break has been a bad one for Barcelona so far as several of their players have picked up injuries or knocks.

Netherlands duo Memphis Depay and Frenkie de Jong both had to be taken off during their game against Poland on Thursday. While the latter’s substitution was more out of precaution, the former is expected to be sidelined for some time.

Jules Kounde also came off with a hamstring issue while playing for France against Croatia. And later in that game itself, another Barcelona star, Ousmane Dembele, seems to have suffered from some muscular discomfort, reports Javi Miguel of AS.

The 25-year-old had earned his first call-up to the French national team in over a year after a spectacular 2022 with Barcelona. The attacker had remained injury-free since September and was thriving under the guidance of Xavi, which helped him force his way back into Les Bleus’ squad.

Dembele did not start for France on Thursday but came on for Antoine Griezmann with a little over ten minutes left to be played. And it is being claimed that he suffered discomfort in his calf during the short time he was on the pitch.

However, Javi Miguel adds that there is nothing to worry with regard to the Frenchman’s condition and he will be continuing with the France team, unlike Kounde, who will return to Barcelona to undergo tests and determine the extent of his injury.

Depay, too, is expected to return to Catalonia, while de Jong will stay with the Netherlands camp, as his condition is also nothing concerning.
