Barcelona flop prefers Real Betis switch, would consider PL, Serie A if move fails

Barcelona recently confirmed the contract renewal of Marcos Alonso. The left-back, along with fellow summer signing Hector Bellerin, had penned only a one-year contract upon joining.

And while Barça have pulled the trigger on Alonso’s extension, the club have no such plans for Bellerin. Indeed, the current La Liga leaders do not plan on offering the former Arsenal man a new deal, which is hardly surprising considering how things have gone for him so far.

As things stand, Bellerin’s contract expires at the end of the season and he will leave as a free agent in the summer. At the same time, though, an exit in the ongoing transfer window would not be ruled out either.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Bellerin is looking to leave Barcelona and is waiting for a call from former club Real Betis. In case a move back to Estadio Benito Villamarin does not materialise, the 27-year-old would consider a move to the Premier League or Serie A.

Bellerin spent the last season on loan at Real Betis and performed fairly well. The Spaniard was linked with a return to the Seville-based club in the summer, but the transfer did not go through, and he eventually ended up at Camp Nou.

Having returned to his boyhood club, Bellerin has found it hard to convince Xavi, with the manager utilising Jules Kounde, Sergi Roberto, Ronald Araujo, and even Alejandro Balde ahead of him at right-back this season.

As a result, Bellerin has played just seven matches this term, and has accrued less than 500 minutes on the pitch.

Since it is clear that he is not a big part of the manager’s plans, it is understandable if Bellerin wants to leave. However, a move to Real Betis is complicated at this point.

While Los Verdiblancos have shown an interest in the ex-Arsenal man, a transfer would depend on them getting a few of their players off their books and Manuel Pellegrini would also need to make adjustments to his squad, such as moving Youssouf Sabaly to left-back.

Given that a return to Real Betis is not straightforward, Bellerin would consider a return to the Premier League or a move to the Italian Serie A as well, as per the report. However, a transfer might not be easy to achieve this month.

What seems certain is that Bellerin will not be staying at Barcelona beyond the ongoing campaign.
