Barcelona are expected to miss out on the signing of Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen after it’s been reported that his father, Sten, has asked for a huge commission.

Christensen is one of the three defenders from Chelsea’s roster whose contract will run down by the end of the season, making the Denmark international one of the most wanted players across Europe. While the Blues are doing all they can, it seems like his father is proving out to be a stumbling block.

The 25-year-old has no shortage of suitors. Although the defender has been approached by several Premier League clubs, he will not consider any offer from the league out of respect for Chelsea.

As things stand, Christensen has admirers not only from the La Liga but also from the Bundesliga. Bayern Munich are one of the two clubs that are leading the race to sign the defender. As for Chelsea, Mundo Deportivo says while they have already tabled their part of the negotiation, the renewal premium his father is demanding is simply over the fence.

And it’s not only Chelsea that are struggling to deal with the situation. Barcelona, as we all know, have been in the race for quite a long time, and judging by the current state of finances, this is certainly not an affordable option for the club.

The situation with Christensen was entirely different last August. He was close to signing a new long-term deal but decided to wait and assess his options. Chelsea certainly did not like the move and while they have already offered him a new deal, they do not intend to improve it anytime soon.

The decision hasn’t bode well for the Premier League team, but teams across Europe are benefitting. While interest from Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund stands, Barcelona and Bayern are thought to be the destination the player is considering.
