Barcelona are already chalking out the roadmap for the summer, with plans being formulated to reinforce the squad and get rid of players who could help generate funds.

At the same time, Barcelona sporting director Deco has not lost sight of securing the long-term futures of some of the key players that are already in the squad.

And, SPORT reports that Deco is eager to tie down two club captains, Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong, to new contracts as soon as possible.

The Blaugrana are already going to take a step forward to extend their contracts given the need to know the willingness of these two players.

Ronald Araujo’s renewal crucial to avoid potential exit

Araujo’s current contract with Barcelona runs until the summer of 2026, but his wages do not reflect his stature and importance within the squad.

The Uruguayan international is attracting major interest from Bayern Munich, who were willing to make a big offer for him in January and are expected to return in the summer.

As such, Barcelona see it as key to hand a new and improved deal to Araujo in order to prevent his departure. If an agreement is not reached, there may be a possibility of a big-money sale come summer.

Approach made to renew De Jong

Meanwhile, the report also mentions that Barça are eager to hand De Jong a new contract, with his current one running out in 2026, like Araujo’s.

As such, there has already been an approach from the club to the midfielder’s camp to extend his deal while adapting his salary to the current circumstances.

However, there has been little desire to talk about it from the player’s entourage. But Barça are in a hurry to close the deal and Deco is keen on finalising the Dutchman’s renewal before the season ends.

If he fails to do so, there could be an internal debate about the future of De Jong, who continues to be a wanted commodity in the market.
