Barcelona defender will join a Premier League team, Aston Villa keen – report

In a surprising turn of events, journalist Gerard Romero has said that Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet is on the cusp of joining a Premier League club, but it appears that Tottenham Hotspur will not be his destination.
Lenglet’s tenure at Barcelona, where he joined from Sevilla in 2018, was characterized by flashes of brilliance and moments of inconsistency. Despite this, he showcased his defensive prowess at times.
At this moment, though, despite defensive injuries, Lenglet is no longer wanted at Barcelona and given his high salary, those sitting in the higher offices are desperately trying to get him off the ranks.
Why are Tottenham ruled out?
Tottenham held a keen interest in securing the signature of Barcelona’s centre-back.
Barcelona also appeared to be invested in facilitating Lenglet’s move to Tottenham.
This prospective move could not only mark the beginning of a new chapter for the player but could also potentially provide the Catalans with the resources needed to restructure their own squad.
However, negotiations hit a roadblock due to Lenglet’s unwavering stance on his wages and Barça’s transfer fee demands.

So which team in Premier League?
According to Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa are considering the possibility of pursuing Lenglet as a potential acquisition in the closing days of the transfer window.
While various choices remain on the table, Barcelona are cognizant of Aston Villa’s interest and are closely monitoring any progress.
In any scenario, the La Liga champions hold a strong belief that Lenglet’s departure is imminent.
La Liga teams interested as well
Among all the suitors, Lenglet’s former team Sevilla seem to be holding a keen interest. As reported before, the fellow La Liga team is making good progress in securing his services. If agreed, the defender will join Sevilla on loan.
Furthermore, Real Betis have also been credited with an interest. At the moment, Betis are in the process of completing the transfer of Luiz Felipe to Al-Ittihad for €22 million, along with an additional €4 million subject to variables.
The departure of the player will open up both financial resources and space, which are essential for accommodating Lenglet within the team.
