According to journalist Ruben Uria on OnzeTV3 (h/t SPORT), Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix could be back on the agenda at FC Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old is on his way out of Atletico Madrid currently, as he is poised to join Chelsea on loan for the remainder of the season. However, it has been widely reported that the Blues will not have a purchase option and Felix will return to Atletico in the summer.

And, according to Ruben Uria, Barça’s interest in the Portuguese international could be reactivated at that point.

It is no secret that Barcelona president Joan Laporta is a huge admirer of Felix. In fact, he has previously admitted to trying to sign the former Benfica ace in 2021, as part of the deal that saw Antoine Griezmann return to Atletico Madrid.

However, a move did not materialise back then and given the Catalans’ financial situation, there was no scope for the club to make any attempts to sign him this month when it became clear that he wanted out of the Civitas Metropolitano.

The Portuguese superstar’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has close ties with Laporta and has previously tried to facilitate a move to Camp Nou for his client. And, the subject of Felix could again be back on the agenda at Can Barça in the summer.

However, for that to happen, the Blaugrana would have to free up a large chunk of their wage budget and generate enough Fair Play margin that would allow them to make marquee acquisitions before the start of the next season.

For now, though, Felix on his way to Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are targeting a move for Barcelona’s Memphis Depay as a replacement, although the Catalans are said to be demanding a fee of €10 million for the Dutch forward.
