Barcelona could pocket €6 million as Man United, Liverpool, Newcastle eye former defender

According to Gabriel Sans of Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona could be in a position to benefit financially from one of their former players in the form of Jean-Clair Todibo.
The 23-year-old centre-back, who plays for OGC Nice, is being courted by three Premier League clubs in Manchester United, Liverpool, and Newcastle United heading into the summer transfer window.
Barcelona signed Todibo from French club Toulouse in January 2019, but managed just five appearances for the club. After loan stints at Schalke and Benfica, he moved to Nice in the winter window of 2021, initially on a loan deal with a permanent buy option.
And the Ligue 1 side decided to take up that option, paying the Blaugrana a fee of €8.5 million plus another €7 million in add-ons. On top of that, Barcelona also secured 20% future sale rights on the Frenchman.
During his time at Nice, Todibo has flourished and emerged as one of the most reliable defenders in Ligue 1. It has led to interest in the 23-year-old from PSG, but things have gone quiet on that front.
But, Todibo could end up making his way to the Premier League as three top clubs in Manchester United, Liverpool, and Newcastle United are interested in his services.
As per the report, Nice are open to selling their prized asset and have slapped a €30 million valuation on him. If any of the three clubs were to meet that price tag, Barcelona would be guaranteed 20%, i.e., €6 million from the sale.
Given the club’s precarious financial situation and the need to generate big income, every penny matters and the €6 million from Todibo’s potential transfer away from Nice would certainly help the La Liga leaders.
