Francesco Camarda is the name on almost everybody’s lips in Italy. The young striker, at 15 years and 260 days, became the youngest player to make a debut in Serie A history, when he came on for AC Milan against Fiorentina.
Camarda, who entered the field in the 83rd minute against the Viola, is one of the gems of the Rossoneri’s youth academy.
The Italian giants are already working to secure his long-term future when he turns 16, in March 2024. Camarda, for his part, has a strong connection with Milan and it is clear to him that he wants to succeed at San Siro.
But, as per Toni Juanmarti of SPORT, there were a few occasions in the past when Camarda, his family, and representatives considered the possibility of testing himself abroad.
That is when the opportunity to sign the 15-year-old striker was presented to reigning La Liga champions Barcelona, but they did not take the necessary steps to make the transfer happen.
Barcelona could have signed Camarda in 2021
The first opportunity knocked on the Blaugrana’s doors in 2021 when those responsible for Barça’s grassroots football were informed of the possibility of signing Camarda who was open to listening to the Catalans.
It was not a simple matter, though, as the regulations governing the transfer of Under-16 players make this type of move difficult.
And, Barcelona hesitated too much after the player’s first approach, and the opportunity slipped out.
A repeat in 2022
As per the report, Camarda was still open to the possibility of signing for Barça in 2022, and the club, too, were very much aware of the situation.
However, the youngest-ever debutant in Serie A never got a concrete answer from the La Liga champions.
Somehow, Camarda’s name is believed to have ended up getting lost among the many offers the Blaugrana receive.
Now, Camarda has already popped up into the Milan first team and all indications are that, if things go well, the young talent will continue with the Rossoneri for years to come.
