Fortunes have not quite favoured Barcelona as far as their right-back department is concerned. The club took a gamble by signing Hector Bellerin on deadline day, but the former Arsenal starlet has not been able to establish himself as a first-team regular under Xavi.

This has led to Xavi once again relying on the services of Sergi Roberto. But with even the Barcelona veteran facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou, the club have intensified their search for a new option in the right-back position.

According to Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona are considering a move for Benjamin Pavard. The Bayern Munich starlet was one of the players that emerged on the shortlist of Xavi Hernandez, as he looks to address his problems in the right-back position.

Aged 26, Pavard might not be particularly young, but he is no stranger to success. The former Stuttgart starlet had famously played a key role in France’s 2018 World Cup triumph four years ago and has wealth of experience at the highest level of football.

However, his progress at Allianz Arena has stalled in recent years as he has been unable to fulfil his potential. The right-back also lost his place in the France national team, with coach Didier Deschamps preferring Jules Kounde in the recent World Cup.

But that has not deterred Barcelona from keeping close tabs on the Frenchman. What makes Pavard such an appealing target for the Catalans is his contract situation. The right-back indeed has his contract expiring in 2024, meaning he could be available on a cut-price deal in the summer.

Bayern Munich themselves have appeared keen on getting rid of the Frenchman lately, and with Barcelona involved in the race, it will be interesting to see whether or not Pavard moves to Camp Nou next season.
