Barcelona lost two of their best players ever in the summer transfer window as Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba left the club after more than a decade of service each, joining Inter Miami on a free transfer.

Xavi and co. went on a worldwide hunt to replace the former, who had etched his legacy as one of the, if not the greatest defensive midfielder to ever play the game. However, with financial cuffs on their wrists, they could only end up signing Oriol Romeu from Girona for €3.5 million.

As for Alba, Alejandro Balde had already taken his place in the starting lineup last summer, but has failed to mirror his compatriot’s incredible output.

In fact, last season alone, Alba had two goals and three assists despite only playing 24 league games, out of which he started just 14. He also created 12 big chances in that duration.

While Barcelona fully trust Balde to be a starter under Xavi, they want to sort out his backup situation. Currently, Marcos Alonso is covering for him as a second-choice, but no-one is convinced with his performances, including the fans.

As such, Barcelona are considering integrating Alex Valle into the first-team squad next starting next summer, as per a report by Mundo Deportivo.

Currently on loan at Levante, Valle is a La Masia graduate that was competing with Balde in the youth levels for a place. He was even part of the Barcelona pre-season squad in the United States of America while Balde as injured.

However, the Catalan giants loaned him out when it became clear that Alonso would continue to be Balde’s deputy, at least until his contract runs up in 2024.

Xavi and the coaching staff are not losing track of Valle’s performances with Levante, who has racked up nine starts so far in the second division of Spanish football, La Liga 2.
