Barcelona’s game of accounts and balancing is far from over with. Despite being over an year past the onset of their financial instability, the Catalans continue to count every penny and are far from being free to sign whom they want.

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are in a similar situation in the ongoing transfer window. Despite wanting to sign a replacement for the departing Memphis Depay, the Blaugranas find it impossible to do so in the coming days.

The renewals and registration of new contracts of Gavi and Ronald Araujo will thus take the fore if Hector Bellerin leaves this month. The Spaniard is close to singing with Sporting Lisbon on a six-month loan, after which he will become a free agent.

It was reported earlier this month that Dutchman’s exit did not clear enough space on the wage bill to register Gavi with the seniors and the #6 jersey.

Bellerin was signed by Catalans as an urgent last-minute backup for the right-back position this season. Having just played three La Liga games so far this season, it is clear that the right-back is not fancied by Xavi Hernandez.

Real Betis were seriously interested in the former Arsenal man’s services and see his return to the Benito Villmarin to be an ideal solution to Alex Moreno’s departure. However, Barcelona are not entirely happy with the operation.

Despite having Bellerin at his disposal, Xavi has preferred to use his centre-backs Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo at right-bath this season.

Unsurprisingly, even Sergi Roberto is ahead of the former Arsenal star, and could even be handed a new contract on Xavi’s request. However, it remains to be seen if the coach is willing to compromise on a valuable backup option for no real gain.
