It is no secret that Barcelona want to assure Ronald Araujo’s continuity beyond his ongoing contract.

The 25-year-old Uruguayan, who is a subject of interest for Bayern Munich, has a contract with Barcelona until 2026 and the team from from Catalonia wants to resolve the entire matter before the end of the season.

Leading up to the story, a report from Mundo Deportivo has affirmed that there is a growing sense of optimism within the team that Araujo will extend his contract sooner rather than later.

Laporta personally involved

Araujo stands as a pillar of Barcelona, and the club is keen on maintaining this status for the foreseeable future. Disregarding Bayern Munich’s €90 million offer, which was turned down earlier this year, the Uruguayan is viewed as a vital asset to Barcelona’s sporting ambitions.

Consequently, negotiations to extend his current contract beyond 2026 rank high on the agenda of the club’s top brass.

Upon receiving information suggesting Araujo’s potential departure from Barcelona, club President Joan Laporta personally engaged in direct communication with the defender.

Laporta reassured Araujo of his integral role within the team, emphasizing his non-transferable status and expressing the club’s unwavering confidence in him.

Araujo wants Barcelona to decide

Both Laporta and Araujo met earlier this month during the presentation of the Barça One documentary ‘Origins’. The documentary’s first focus is on the Uruguayan player, indicating his prominent position within the team hierarchy.

Meanwhile, in recent public remarks, Araujo, whose market value stands at €70 million, has been shelving decisions about his future to Barcelona, saying, “My future depends on the club. Everyone knows that I am very happy here at Barça . And very grateful to Xavi,” he said.

Now, it is to be noted that even the club has communicated to him that they are not interested in profiting from his departure, despite being aware of significant offers from bidders like Bayern Munich.

They understand that selling him would bring substantial financial gain, but they are not willing to entertain the idea.
