Over two weeks have elapsed since Sergio Busquets made his decision to leave Barcelona public. The club subsequently confirmed that this would be the veteran’s final season at the club and he now has just two games remaining in the Blaugrana colours.

Yet, not much is known about the captain’s future club. While it appears improbable that he makes a move within Europe, the topic has largely lurked in the shadows.

According to reports from SPORT, the Spanish legend is in advanced talks with both Al Hilal and Al Nassr over a summer transfer. A chapter in Saudi Arabia appears to be his likely option, but the decision between the two clubs is far from simple.

Al Nassr became a global name in January when they completed the acquisition of Cristiano Ronaldo on a free transfer. They currently sit second on the Saudi Professional League standings, three points behind leaders Al Ittihad.

Al Hilal, meanwhile, are threatening to become the next Saudi powerhouse. The club have made a €500 million per year contract offer to Lionel Messi and are Barcelona’s primary competitor for the Argentine’s acquisition.

Moreover, there are rumours that they could make a move for Jordi Alba too.

With Messi’s return to Barcelona facing practical hurdles and economic constraints, it could be possible that Busquets reunites with his former captain at Al Hilal. However, Busquets is still to choose between Ronaldo’s side and Messi’s potential destination.

Busquets will make his final appearance at Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday night against Mallorca. One week later, he will play his last game as a Barcelona player at Balaidos.

Meanwhile, Xavi Hernandez has made it his priority to sign a replacement for the departing legend come June. Martin Zubimendi and Joshua Kimmich are some of the names mentioned, but the former appears to be the prime target.
