Barcelona captain drops exit hint amid transfer rumours

Speaking on Sergio Aguero’s Twitch stream (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets has dropped a major hint that he will be on the move at the end of the ongoing season.
The 34-year-old veteran midfielder is in the final year of his contract with the Catalan giants. It has led to widespread reports that Busquets will leave the club when his deal runs out in the summer.
The player himself had not said anything of that nature in the past, even stating that he will decide based on how the season pans out.
“I don’t know what will happen at Barça either. Many people consider it a fact that I’m leaving. It’s not. I haven’t thought about it. I want to see how the season is going,” Busquets had said.
However, now, the Barcelona and Spain captain has dropped a major hint that he could leave at the end of the season, telling Aguero on the stream that he will be free to negotiate with the clubs of his choice starting in January.
“I will be free to negotiate with other clubs in January,” Busquets said on Saturday.
This comes after reports emerged that Busquets had even offered to leave Barcelona in the January window itself if it would help the club, but Xavi quickly shot down that idea.
The manager still relies heavily on the 34-year-old veteran and his experience will be key as Barça look to reclaim the La Liga title. With Gerard Pique retiring, Busquets’ leadership and know-how will become even more crucial.
But, the Spaniard will likely bid goodbye at the end of the season, with a move to the MLS looking like a serious possibility. Barcelona, for their part, have already started looking for replacements, with names like Martin Zubimendi and Ruben Neves doing the rounds.
