Barcelona are still interested in 25-year-old Wolves midfielder

Barcelona are eyeing a move for a new midfielder in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Catalans are hoping for a seamless transition in the holding midfield role, as Sergio Busquets nears the final phase of his career.

With Busquets still offering top performances on a weekly basis, Barcelona are not looking for an immediate replacement. But they want to sign a midfielder that can initially serve as a deputy for the Spaniard before taking on the mantle of becoming the club’s main number six.

According to Gerard Romero, one of Barcelona’s top targets this summer is Ruben Neves. The Wolves midfielder is widely expected to leave the Molineux at the end of the season thus putting an end to his five-year spell at the club.

During this time at Molineux, Neves has established himself as one of the finest holding midfielders in the Premier League, impressing the onlookers with his combative qualities, coupled with his technical brilliance and ability to control the game.

Neves can also be a danger from long range thanks to his vicious right foot, which makes him an even more appealing target for FC Barcelona.

Luring Neves from Wolves, though, could be a tricky task for the Catalans.

Although the player is prepared to take the next step in his career, he does have two years remaining on his current deal at Wolves, thus giving the Midlands outfit the leverage to hold out for a hefty price tag.

Ruben Neves has no shortage of suitors either, with Premier League giants Arsenal set to offer stiff competition in the race to sign the Portuguese international this summer.

And with restrictions of Financial Fair Play looming large, Neves remains an unrealistic target for Barcelona this summer, unless the Blaugrana manage to offload all of their unwanted stars, including Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann.
