Barcelona’s troubles continued as they slumped to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Royal Antwerp, in the final group game of the UEFA Champions League.

One of the standout players from the result was Arthur Vermeeren. The young midfielder scored a goal and was voted the Man of the Match.

Vermeeren: Top ten players with most minutes played

Apart from his brilliant performance against Barcelona, Vermeeren has been a standout player for Royal Antwerp all throughout the season.

In fact, the Belgian is among the top ten players with the most minutes played in Europe’s top league this season.

That is because the midfielder, at the age of just 18, has featured in over 2500 minutes of football in all competitions this season.

The majority of them have come in the Belgian top flight, but the player was also involved in every single minute of Royal Antwerp’s Champions League campaign.

Set to leave the club in January

According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Arthur Vermeeren is facing an uncertain future at Royal Antwerp and may even leave the club in the upcoming January transfer window.

Vermeeren’s lawyer, Sebastien Ledure, is already talking to top European clubs. He may leave Royal Antwerp in January, but if not, he is more than likely to leave in the summer.

Needless to say, Barcelona are among the clubs interested in the services of the Belgian, who made his international debut earlier in the year.

While it remains to be seen whether or not Barcelona can afford a move for the Royal Antwerp starlet, the player is pretty much in focus, as far as the Catalans are concerned.

Vermeeren, after all, could be an excellent addition to the Barcelona midfield, which has struggled with depth due to several injuries, along with the summer exit of Sergio Busquets.
