Barça facing difficulties in contract talks with La Masia duo, Premier League teams interested

Barcelona have a headache with regard to contract talks with two of their most promising young players in Gavi and Ronald Araujo, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Both the talents have been immense for the team in the current campaign and have become key players under Xavi Hernandez. However, their current contracts stand to expire at the end of the 2022/23 season, which means they will enter the final year of their respective deals in a few months.

There had been claims previously that agreements over the duo’s renewal were close. However, as per the aforementioned report, that is not the case as negotiations with both parties have been ‘stuck’ for a while now.

Gavi’s current deal, which expires in 2023, has a release clause worth €50 million, which will increase to €100 million after June 30. Premier League giants Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool are interested in him, along with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

As for Araujo, there is a release clause worth a massive €200 million in his existing deal with the Blaugrana. But he, too, continues to attract significant interest from outside, with Manchester United, in particular, very keen on landing the Uruguayan defender.

The report adds that there is optimism within the club that their long-term futures can be tied down as both Gavi and Araujo remain intent on continuing their careers at Barcelona.

The midfielder’s renewal, especially, is believed to go through much more smoothly as the 17-year-old is not even considering any other option beyond extending his stay at Camp Nou. His agent, Ivan de la Pena, is also keen for the teenage sensation to continue with the Catalans.

Araujo’s situation, however, could get a bit more complicated. Despite the player’s intention to stay and sign a new deal, his agent is not prioritising an extension with the Blaugrana, especially with Manchester United pushing hard to sign the 23-year-old.

Barça are prepared to up their contract offer for the ex-Boston River ace. Whether that changes the situation in the coming weeks remains to be seen. For now, though, talks are believed to have ‘stranded’ with the club also keen for the players to focus on the important fixtures coming up.
