According to a report from AS, Atletico Madrid have sent a contract offer to winger Yannick Carrasco, who is a transfer target for Barcelona this summer.

Barcelona secured a purchase option worth around €19 million for Carrasco when negotiating Memphis Depay’s transfer to Atletico Madrid back in January.

The Blaugrana have held an interest in the 29-year-old Belgian international. However, any move for his dependent on the club offloading out-of-favour forward Ferran Torres.

But, with there appearing little sign of the Spaniard leaving and the Blaugrana having other priority deals to close, the operation for Carrasco has cooled down at the moment.

It must be noted that Barça’s buy option for the winger expires on Friday, June 30. And considering that they are currently focused on other operations, Atletico Madrid believe that their rivals will not make an outlay on their player this summer.

As such, the Rojiblancos have now sent a contract offer to Carrasco in order to keep him at the club for longer.

The Belgian international’s current deal with Atleti expires in 2024 and the report states that they have offered to extend his deal by two more years with a slightly better salary than what he currently earns.

However, Carrasco is of the opinion that he deserves a bigger pay raise, which had led to contract talks halting in the past as well.

The 29-year-old had a decent campaign, finishing with ten goals and five assists from 44 matches in all competitions. He has his heart set on a transfer to Barcelona since January when the Catalans first made their approach.

However, with Xavi Hernandez & co. no longer seeing him as a priority, Carrasco might decide to negotiate and sign a new contract with Atletico Madrid.
